Last Stop In Romania: Timisoara (August 13th and 14th)

By far, the most spectacular--and iconic--landmark in Timisoara: The Cathedral Trei Ierarhi. It is the largest Orthodox Church in Romania. It was built in 1940, and is one of the tallest cathedrals in the world. I spent a lot of time around it, oggling it, inside and out, a few times during my short stay. As you can see, it is really and truly beautiful...

The remaining photos... other architecture and various street scenes I enjoyed looking at. I only spent one full day in this town... and from what I did see, I prefer Cluj and Brasov.  It was also fairly dead here, owing to some sort of holiday.. most everything was closed, so that affected how interesting it was as well. In short, I was fine with just a day here!

In order to get into the historic center from my guest house, I walked along streets filled with beautiful trees and some old, lovely mansions, such as this one here.. because of the lush vegetation, I could only see the very top part...

Clearly, like everywhere I have been in Romania, there are some very wealthy inhabitants!

I also wandered through a botanical park, happy to come across some lovely flower designs like this one!

Just to add variety to the mix: some fabulous, historic art deco designs!

...plus, monuments and assorted scultures...

The central plaza...

what a pretty and creative way to shade this street!! loved it!!!

Another main plaza, famous for the cathedral at the end of the walk...

This apartment building, called the Bruck House, was one of my favorites. Here is the description: It was designed by László Székely and Arnold Merbl in the Secession style in 1910. Unfortunately, apart from the pharmacy occupying the ground floor, there was no way to get inside to see the rest of it...

100 years old cable car on display in one of the plazas...quite charming, I thought!

This, sadly, was a beautiful synagogue that was closed down and abandoned...
