SPAIN---A Long (But Pleasant!) Day's Drive From Barcelona To Madrid... July 5th

Happily, the day following the traumatic one in Barcelona was much more pleasant! Riding in a comfy "Beemer" with Diego, we had a long, 6 hour (plus) drive to Madrid. We took our time... had plenty of stops, and there was a lot of nice scenery to admire along the way. See some such samples below!

In the charming, historic town of Medinaceli: This wonderfully preserved Roman arch was strategically positioned to look out over the fertile valley below. This town is located about 90 minutes outside of Madrid, and was a wonderful side trip along our way.

Besides being a charming, historic town, we had perfect weather and beautiful skies as we walked through the streets and admired the scenery.

The town church

It was siesta time in this little town, and quite eery: the town square, with not a single other person in sight! Really unbelievable!

On the road: magnificent skies contributed to this lovely road trip! Also fun to see the countryside by a different means (that is to say, different from a train or bus).

The terrain changed frequently along the way...

A pretty little hillside town, seen from afar, at one of our rest stops.

The "Osborn Bull"-- the icon for a famous brand of Spanish brandy. One finds this guy frequently on hilltops overlooking the highway. Very imposing!
