First tour of the day: Borghese Park-- the largest in Rome; said to be the "Central Park" of the city. It was extensive and lovely... the three of us (two humans, one dog) enjoyed the change of pace...being away from city streets and out into nature.
Grueby ambled along with us...happy to rest when I did! Jeff, though, was infuriatingly tireless!
The park boasted a sizeable lake and these very colorful ducks!
One unusual and interesting fountain, supported by monstrous sea horses!
One side of the "Villa Borghese", home to a famous museum. We didn't have tickets, so did not go in.
Next on the tour: The streets of the "Jewish Ghetto", filled with all sorts of amazing Roman ruins... most especially, "Del Teatro di Marcello"...the expansive area of ruins which you see below. The "Jewish Ghetto" was exactly that in war times... now, in modern times, it is a chic area, highly desireable as a nice place to live, replete with many restaurants serving middle eastern, "Jewish" cuisine. Jeff and I didn't eat there, but enjoyed meandering through the area.

One never ceases to marvel at the monstrous columns... how did they lift them? Each segment HAD to weigh several tons... and the construction has to be SO solid as to withstand earthquakes and weather over millenia... simply impossible to "grok", as it were! |
The Tiber river, running through Rome, separating it in two. It was a main source of fresh water for the Romans. |
Roman archway over the Tiber... amazing how intact and beautiful it still is!
Finally, pictureque plazas and two more amazing churches, followed by a stroll back by the ruins of the forum on my way to the metro and back to my Airbnb. Another full, glorious day, to be sure! Exhausting but truly awe inspiring.
